Anniversary Gifts:
“Chronicles of your Love”

Every couple has to think about anniversary gifts at least once a year….

I’d like to emphasize the words ‘at least’, because to me, a year has many more anniversaries to celebrate than just one!

Choosing the right anniversary gift can be a cause of a lot of confusion for some people, especially when it comes to finding one that will show just how much you care.

I know I’ve said this many times already, but I feel that I must say it again -- anniversary gifts are symbols that represent the celebration of your life together.

The picture is of multi-colored balloons, ribbons, and caps flying toward the sky. Symbolically, they represent the importance of celebrating love, life, and all the anniversaries of our love. And since your life is filled with a multitude of moments to be remembered, doesn’t it make sense then that each should be celebrated individually rather than be bunched together for a brief “hurray” only once a year?

If you prefer to take the safer, more comfortable path, you can always go the traditional route and buy anniversary gifts that are intended for specific years of anniversary celebration.

These gifts range from paper to linen to rubies, all depending on the anniversary being celebrated. If you’re interested, you can visit my Flowers page and see which flower corresponds to your anniversary year.

On the other hand, if you want to get a little “wild” and forget tradition, there are a few things that you need to remember.

First, remember that an anniversary is your celebration, not the world’s, so celebrate it as you please.

Second, remember that love is not a clean cut thing and therefore, your celebration shouldn’t be either.

The picture is of a big, red heart with a question mark outlining the inside of the right lobe. Symbolically, the question mark asks - Lastly, always remember what you’re celebrating. Are you celebrating each other? Are you celebrating the longevity of your union? Are you celebrating gratitude for having met?

Your answer will be unique to your individual relationship, therefore, remember to celebrate your anniversary in a unique and individual way.

I remember one anniversary where I was really set on getting Jake something unbelievably different and romantic but what to get I just wasn’t sure.

Of course my friends had some ideas of their own and these ranged from a pair of handcuffs and lingerie, to a weekend away at a B&B.

All excellent ideas might I add but these were just not the kind of gifts I was thinking of.

The picture is of a big black note with smaller notes floating around it with a purple, blue, and yellow background resembling a tie-dye tea shirt. With Jake being such a huge music fan, I decided to create his anniversary gift around the theme of music.

Music plays a big role in our lives and I thought reliving our years together through music would be pretty cool. The idea would take some planning, but I figured it would be worth it.

One of the first hits that I remembered was Phil Collins’ “A Groovy Kind Of Love” (track # 6) icon. That would be the first of my anniversary gifts along with ticket stubs from our first movie date. Yes, I kept the tickets. Soppy, I know. ;-)

As I traveled down memory lane, I had so much fun reminiscing about the good old days that I concluded that this idea was one of the best gift idea that I ever had.

I continued building my anniversary gift by gathering song titles icon for every year of our relationship and then proceeded to recorded them all on one CD.

The picture is of a small, light blue ink bottle with the word Additionally, I created a handmade book with the song lyrics, all written by myself with authentic black ink and a feather-tipped pen. And if that wasn’t enough, at the end of each lyric, I had a few lines telling the story of ‘us’ for that individual year.

Once the CD and the album were finished, I wrapped them in a silky piece of paper which was scented with a few drops of my favorite perfume.

Yes, I know that I can get a little annoying with the details. But one must do as he preaches, don’t you think? Take a look at the Romanceit model for gift-giving and you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about.

For a final touch, I attached a blank card with my own ‘secret’ words of love written especially for my love. I would share…but I’m sure you have plenty of your own.

Our anniversary turned out to be an amazing trip back to the past.

It was an intimate night in, just the two of us with lyrics and sounds that were part of our journey as a couple.

The pic is of two hearts outlined with yellow ribbon-like lines. On one heart, stands a tiny woman, and on the other, a man -- reaching for each other. The background is a red and purplish blue blend. The best part of it though, was the fact that the trip not only symbolized our past, but also represented a new beginning; the first step to our future built upon a solid foundation of love, understanding, passion, friendship and of course, MUSIC!

After that soul-warming experience, I now believe, more than ever, that anniversary gifts, no matter what they are, are beautiful and perfect as long as they come straight from the heart.

Are you a ‘safe traveler’? Did you buy linen as an anniversary gift because it matched the anniversary year that you were celebrating?

Why not try something a bit more personal and romantic like matching his and hers linen dressing gowns?

The theme is still linen and symbolism is still the same, but doesn’t that sound more romantic than a set of bed sheets?

With a little romantic imagination you can turn anniversary gifts into incredibly seducing and heart-throbbing gestures of your love.

Think about it…take off the linen sheets and you get a naked bed. But take off the matching linen gowns and what do you get then??? ;-)

Let loose my friend...express yourself…speak and give from your heart…it’s the only way to true happiness. Give it all…RomanceIt!
