Let me begin by congratulating you on your decision to incorporate the romantic breakfast idea into your life. You are a wise, wise person and soon you’ll see why.

Scientists consider breakfast to be the most important meal of the day. They think that getting the right nutrients into your body will make it function more robustly throughout the day. Are they right? Absolutely! But I'd like to add two additional benefits to the mix.

In an article entitled, "Edible love affairs: Romantic ideas for two," I discuss the three most important connections between food and love:

1.Nourishment,
2.Emotional fulfillment, and
3.Bonding

I agree with the scientists that nourishment is an absolute must; a physical necessity for our basic survival. But the other two elements are just as important for our spiritual well-being and must not be overlooked.

Unfortunately, most of the time they are.

I bet you if a drug had the same three side effects as the elements mentioned above, it would be flying off the shelves this very second. Don't you think?

I'm envisioning a perplexed look on your face. Bad analogy? ;-)

What's my point? My point is, or I should say my hope is, that after you learn about the three "side effects" that food can have on your romantic life, you won't limit your romantic ideas to dinner alone. I'm not saying that you do...but it is usually the more common choice.

I suppose there's a good reason for it. The midnight hours do lend themselves more easily to romantic ideas that invlove intimate encounters. The dusk silence if the night...who can resist it?

However, I believe that with a bit of planning and imagination, any meal can be turned into a passionate exchange. Will it require some extra time on your part? Yes it will. But then again, don't all activities that return a handsome reward?

Not sure how to expand your edible repertoire? Don't worry. I have an idea for you. Hint: It involves the first meal of the day. ;-)

Breakfast arrives during a glorious moment of the day -- a few minutes after we’ve just opened our eyes and about half an hour before we're off to join the rat race. It's a time rich with possibility that should not go to waste. So we won't let it.

Let's see, how will we make the most out of this glorious morning time? I’ll tell you my idea if you tell me yours? ;-) Just kidding. You don’t have to tell me your’s. But I will tell you mine.

Being a fanatical traveller and a true lover of cultural traditions, I decided to let the world inspire one of my most enjoyable of romantic ideas -- the romancing breakfast.

The idea was to invite the Schmierkuchen (German-Bohemian cottage cheese cake), the Sochni Tverkie (Russian flat cake with various fillings), and the Crepes with Galletes (French crepes with ice cream) into my bedroom and see what wonders they can perform. ;-)

For my first task, I researched breakfast traditions from around the world. I started with a couple of resources such as Wikipedia.org (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breakfast) to isolate a few regions of interest and proceeded to buy books about those places (a few good books will give you a great feel for a culture and it’s people).

After I finished doing my research, I sat down and planned my breakfast schedule for the entire year. Yes, an entire year. No, I’m not crazy. My romantic world breakfast would take place only once a month, so there were only twelve occasions to plan.

I devoted each month to a world region: Africa, Asia, Australia, Northern Europe, Central and Eastern Europe, Southern Europe, Scandinavia, Latin America, Middle East, and U.S.A.

I know, a year has 12 months and you only see 10 regions. Since some of the regions have varying specialties according to the individual country, I had no problem choosing two more breakfast ideas from the regions I already mentioned.

Once I chose the regions, I continued to plan the romantic breakfast itself -- the food elements, the ambience, and my wardrobe of course. I’m a nut for detail, so for me getting all the intricate details right is extremely important.

For one of my Russian breakfasts, for instance, I went crazy because I couldn’t find the right cup holders to serve the exquisite black tea that I had found. Nutty, I know, but that’s me.

Once the plan was in place, the only other thing to decide was when to put this romantic idea in motion.

I usually have my romantic breakfast on a weekend day because that gives Jake and I plenty of time to enjoy our international feast. But feel free to choose any other day of the week. Just make sure that you leave enough time to savour the beauty of your creation.

Remember – you don’t have to be extravagant and spend lots of money. Some of my breakfasts only cost me twenty bucks. The point is to be creative and to find unusual ways of using what you already have.

For instance, you know the cup holders that I couldn’t find…well, I ended up making them out of tin foil. Nope, I’m not kidding.

I guess that’s me, a soppy romantic always thinking of new and exciting romantic ideas to spice up my relationship. And it is my hope to inspire you to do the same.

Creative romantic ideas keep the love flame alive, so don’t forget to explore them every now and then.
